Fujitsu, Japan Radio Create W-CDMA Venture

date: April 11, 2001 - source by: Wireless Week

Fujitsu and Japan Radio will create a new joint venture company named FJ Mobile Core Technologies. The new entity will focus on the development of hardware and software for next-generation W-CDMA networks.

FJ Mobile will be funded with $100 million yen -- roughly $802,000 USD -- 70 percent from Fujitsu and 30 percent from Japan Radio, Kyodo News reports. The newcomer expects to have about 90 staff members and has set its sales target at $1.7 billion yen for fiscal 2001.

NTT DoCoMo plans to launch high-speed mobile services based on the W-CDMA standard next month. U.S.-based Qualcomm owns some of the licensing rights to the W-CDMA standard, and will be able to collect royalties.
