3G Network hit by foot and mouth outbreak

date: April 12, 2001 - source by: Network News

The foot and mouth crisis in the UK is starting to have an effect the rollout of new 3G mobile networks.

BT admitted that there is a growing problem as a result of the crisis, which shows no sign of coming to an end.

The building of new telecoms infrastructures to deliver high-speed mobile networks, like GPRS and third-generation (3G), have been put on ice in some areas.

A BT spokesman told Network News: "Foot and mouth is affecting our business to a degree, but so far there isn't a huge effect. We are hopeful it will soon be eradicated."

He said that "new build work", which included GPRS and 3G base stations, was also affected and delay of the rollot by 6 months.
