Nokia and Siemens to supply Radiolinja's UMTS systemdate: April 22, 2001 - source by: Radiolinja Ab has selected Nokia and Siemens to supply its third generation (UMTS) mobile phone systems. Radiolinja estimates to spend approximately FIM 2-4 billion for 3G-network technology during the next five years. Radiolinja has traditionally had extensive cooperation with Nokia and Siemens, which both have supplied e.g. Radiolinja's current GSM/GPRS network. For Radiolinja, advanced technology and a broad product portfolio weighted the most upon selecting the UMTS equipment suppliers. The future services will be constructed to function seamlessly on and with the present GSM/GPRS network on a nationwide basis. At the first phase, Radiolinja's UMTS-based services will be available in the largest cities. The aim of the 3-G mobile phone systems is to create new wireless internet-enabled services for Radiolinja customers. Such services are e.g. wireless entertainment services, multimedia, communication services, location-based services and trading services.
