DoCoMo's 3G service to be delay to Oct 1date: April 24, 2001 Japan's leading wireless operator NTT DoCoMo Inc said on Tuesday it will delay the official launch of its third-generation (3G) phone services to October 1 from May 30. DoCoMo said it needs to run tests to ensure that its 3G network functions properly, adding it will hold a news conference on the delay by Thursday. The Nihon Keizai Shimbun business daily reported earlier that the carrier had experienced technical problems in software testing and quoted an unidentified Telecoms Ministry source as saying DoCoMo had decided on the delay because the launch of a flawed service would undermine its credibility with users. DoCoMo said it will start an introductory service to limited customers on May 30.
