Delay in Japan will not harm global 3G launch

Nokia, the world's largest mobile phone maker, said on Tuesday NTT Docomo's decision to delay the commercial launch of the world's first third-generation (3G) network in Japan would not affect the global launch of 3G.

"We don't see any change in the 3G schedule on a global scale," Nokia's chief spokesman Lauri Kivinen told the press.

"This seems to be affecting the initial launch phase in Japan and not the mainstream launch of WCDMA on a global scale which is expected to occur next year."
