EU welcomes IPv6 integration for 3Gdate: April 29, 2001 - source: The European Commission said it would like to be accelerating IPv6 for 3G deployment in Europe. The project code name IPv6 3G Wireless Internet Initiative is crucial to the successful launch of 3G networks in Europe which is expected to start in March next year. This week, the Commission welcomed leading experts to join its task force to address the issue of IPv6 over 3G deployment in the near future. IPv6 is a crucial to the success of 3G, the EU believes that at the current rate of growth with IPv4 (the current Internet), internet domain name will run out by 2005. This is because the introduction of 3G will expand the number of handsets requiring Internet addresses. IPv4 protocol is reaching the end of its useful life and a new protocol IPv6 has been defined to replace it.
