Korea launch 3G service for the World Cup 2002The IMT-2000 consortium led by Korea Telecom will launch its 3G wireless network in May 2002 in time for the World Cup as planed, a statement by Cho Young Chu - the president of the consortium. The schedule commercial IMT-2000 launch in May next year will coinciding with the Football World Cup 2002. "We will be hoping to bring out live football results over the IMT-2000 service" Cho said. Cities hosting the games football matches next year will launch its IMT-2000 service first and than expand the network across the country till 2005. He also said "If there are any problems in the planning, we will delay the launch. We want to make sure that when the services are on, it will be a smooth experience for users. By 2007, the company should have invested about 2,000 billion won on equipment and 4000 base stations.
