KPN launch date uncertain

KPN's launch date for 3G has come under scrutiny as the Financial Times reports that Ludolf Rasterhoff, a senior executive in KPN Mobile, said 3G services would cover one Dutch city by 2004. The firm had previously stated that it was aiming to launch 3G services commercially by H2 2003.

Rasterhoff was quoted speaking at the Dutch launch of i-mode. Rasterhoff said KPN was in no rush to launch its 3G network because many of the key services would be available over i-mode. However a KPN spokeswoman denied the 3G plans had been pushed back. "We stick with our original forecast ... that has absolutely not changed," she said.
