Germany to see no changes to licensesdate: April 11, 2002 The subject of consolidation in Germany's 3G market has now been commented on by Matthias kurth, head of the RegTP. He has continued his hardline approach saying that there will be no changes to regulations governing the transfer of UMTS licenses. This comes after France Telecom's Michel Bon expressed concerns about the market being unable to support six operators, therefore leading to consolidation. Bon demanded that if two license holders decided to merge they should be allowed to keep both licenses. Under current rules, the companies would have to return one of the licenses to the RTP and write off its cost of around EUR 8bn. It seems that Bon has resigned himself to the fact that France Telecom has now been lumbered with MobilCom and it will be in the medium term be forced to merge with another license holder.
