DoCoMo brings TV to 3Gdate: April 16, 2002 DoCoMo is to work with some of Japan's leading commercial TV broadcasters to look into the possibility of including digital TV content onto 3G handsets. The broadcasters, some of whom have already started work on individual trials, are expected to form an alliance with DoCoMo to jointly research and trial the technology and investigate business models. If all goes to plan commercialisation is expected as early as the start of 2004. At the same time, DoCoMo has said that it is cutting the cost of 3G calls to some wireless services by up to 31 per cent from the start of June. The move is seen as an attempt to increase the take up rates of the FOMA service. The cut in fees apply to calls made to its "mopera" internet, voice mail messaging, voice and data-type connection and information service.
