No re-allocation of licenses until 2007 in Germanydate: April 17, 2002 The president of the German regulator Matthias Kurth has said that if any of the country's 3G licenses are returned due to consolidation or withdrawal from the market then the license will not be re-auctioned until 2007. In an interview with local news source Kurth said: "The market environment is not favourable at the moment and there is no need for extra frequency. [If a license is returned] then we could delay a new auction until 2007, at which point new frequencies will be awarded anyway." The two largest operators in the country, seen as the least likely to consolidate, DT and Vodafone, have been the most vocal about returning returned licenses back onto the market. Particularly at a significantly lower price than was originally paid.
