3G in China after two yearsdate: April 18, 2002 China Mobile chairman Wang Xiaochu has predicted that 3G in China would not go on the market within the next two years because the dominant inland telecom market distributors had not yet planned the expenses to offer 3G. Meanwhile reports indicate that the capital expense budget of the Chinese operator, excluding 3G expenses, would come to US$8.6bn (EUR9.78bn) for the next two years. GPRS had taken the operator 4.7 per cent of its budget. Last month, Motorola has signed a cooperative agreement with China Mobile to begin a 3G service dimensioning research project in the country. Motorola slso completed the first trial of its 3G UMTS technology in Motorola’s laboratory in Beijing with teh company.
