Siemens to supply Hutchison 3G Austria with UMTS technologydate: April 22, 2002 The Austrian mobile radio carrier Hutchison 3G Austria has concluded a framework agreement with Siemens for the supply of UMTS technology. Valued at around 200 million euro, the agreement is for a minimum term of five years. For the UMTS network in Austria, the Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group (IC Mobile) will be supplying radio network technology with base stations to Hutchison 3G Austria starting the second quarter of 2002. "This framework agreement is further evidence of our competence at setting up UMTS technology, and marks an extension of the successful collaboration between Siemens and Hutchison," said Lothar Pauly, Vice President of Siemens’ Inf ormation and Communication Mobile Group. Hutchison and Siemens IC Mobile are already working together in other UMTS projects. With the framework agreement recently concluded, Siemens has secured itself a top position in the contest to set up the new mobile radio technology. Siemens has already successfully verified the functional capability of its UMTS technology for more than 20 mobile carriers in Europe and Asia in a number of test runs. These tests demonstrated voice and data transmissions both within UMTS test networks and with existing GSM and fixed networks across national frontiers.
