SK Telecom to delay W-CDMA 3G launch datedate: April 26, 2002 South Korea's top mobile carrier SK Telecom said on Thursday it may delay its W-CDMA 3G mobile services by a year to 2004 as it had yet to sound out subscriber interest in the advanced services. "Japan's DoCoMo has seen little success in its 3G services," Song Sung-ho, senior manager at SK's investor relations team, told analysts. "We will discuss the delay in our 3G services with the government as it requires its approval." In late 2001, SK Telecom launched the world's first trial services of new generation wireless mobile phones, based on CDMA2000 1x EV-DO standard. CDMA2000 is a radio interface technology offering a simple and cost- effective evolutionary step to a 3G network than W-CDMA, favoured by many European 3G operators.
