First U.S. Launch of 3G-Based High Speed Internet Access Deployed in
Maui
date: April 30, 2002
Maui, Hawaii will be the first location in the United States to deploy
3G-based technology as Maui Sky Fiberwill begin demonstrating portable
broadband wireless Internet access on April 22, 2002. Utilizing portable
wireless modems over FCC licensed MMDS spectrum, this is the first total
network solution using internationally recognized UMTS TD-CDMA (TDD) standards
and includes a complete network infrastructure solution.
Key advantages to Maui Sky Fiber's 3G broadband wireless solution include:
-- non-line-of-site with penetration into buildings
-- simple and fast for the customer to install
-- lower cost structure than other broadband technologies
-- support for portable, mobile, as well as fixed installations
