Israeli Cellcom not to publish result

“For now, Cellcom has decided to follow the market and not publish the 3G tender,” Cellcom CTO Lipa Ogman told “Globes” in an exclusive interview.

Ogman said, “I’m sure Cellcom will use UMTS. I’m sure it will happen when there’s a market for UMTS, and it’s worthwhile to launch these services. It wouldn’t be very smart to invest hundreds of millions of dollars, and lose one’s shirt. No one would do that. No business can make such a decision.”

Ogman added, “Regrettably, 3G services that generate revenue for operators are far off. The services don’t exist, and customers aren’t utilizing the services that do exist. It’s better to be cautious. In these times, and in the current financial situation, I believe that no Israeli company will launch or deploy a 3G network, when there is no economic justification for the services.”
