A steady increase of subscribers for au Group |
For almost a year, subscriptions increased at a pace of about 1 million every two months. Since early March, when they reached 6 million, the pace has quickened, increasing about 1 million in a month.
NTT DoCoMo on the other hand, has been struggling with its 3G Foma services. Subscriptions totaled just over 300,000 at the end of March.
KDDI's 3G service, CDMA2000 1X based on Qualcomm's technology, covers about 95 percent of the country and already has 25 times more subscribers than FOMA.
KDDI's service is slower and considered by analysts to be only '2.5G' instead of '3G', it's already signed up 4 million users.
