SK Telecom to invest 427million dollar in WCDMA

SK Telecom spokesman Chul Keun Kwon said the company plan to spend 520 billion won ($US427 million) in 3G WCDMA technology but the company would review that amount in later date.

The company didn't provide further guidance Wednesday as to whether it plans to cut its investment in WCDMA.

But Local media, citing a report submitted by the Ministry of Information and Communication to the National Assembly, have said that SK Telecom has estimated its WCDMA investment at 108.8 billion won (US$89 million) this year.

A ministry official, who declined to be named, confirmed that SK Telecom submitted a draft in February saying it planned to spend 108.8 billion won on WCDMA.

"But SK Telecom's 3G investment plans must be approved by the government since it received a license. Given unclear returns, the number will likely come down from its original plan (of 520 billion won)," the official said.
