NTT DoCoMo to help with SingTel Mobile for W-CDMA 3G Mobile Services
April 22, 2003
NTT DoCoMo announced an agreement with Singapore Telecom Mobile (SingTel
Mobile) to collaborate in relation to the field of 3G mobile multimedia
services based on W-CDMA technology.
Through technical exchange and joint studies, the companies also aim
to realize interconnection and roaming between NTT DoCoMo's existing 3G
network and the 3G network to be built in Singapore by SingTel Mobile,
as well as to develop common 3G mobile multimedia services. They will
also jointly study highly advanced wireless LAN service offerings, for
example, IP connection and convergence with 3G mobile services.
Dr. Keiji Tachikawa, President and CEO of NTT DoCoMo, said "We believe
this partnership will help us expand W-CDMA-based 3G mobile multimedia
services in Asia.. Interoperability is key to providing customers with
seamless mobile multimedia services anytime, anywhere. This joint initiative
will enable DoCoMo and SingTel Mobile to offer our respective customers
value-added mobile multimedia services."
Mr. Lucas Chow, Chief Executive Officer of SingTel Mobile, said: "This
is an important development for both SingTel Mobile and DoCoMo as we team
up to facilitate the growth of 3G services in Asia. The collaboration
will help us take a step towards addressing some of the key concerns regarding
3G such as evolving common standards, roaming issues and compatibility
of handsets. We are very excited about this cooperation agreement and
the potential benefits it can bring to our respective customers."
