NTT DoCoMo agrees on £200 million loan to Hutchison 3G UK
April 23, 2003
NTT DoCoMo announced that after careful consideration of the necessity
of a funding request from Hutchison 3G UK, in which it holds a 20% equity
interest, the loan conditions proposed by H3G UK and the provisions of
the H3G UK Shareholders Agreement between DoCoMo and Hutchison Whampoa,
DoCoMo will meet H3G UK's request for a shareholder loan advancement of
£200 million.
Also, as part of DoCoMo's 3G global strategy, DoCoMo today signed an
agreement for the purpose of mutual cooperation in the provision of 3G
services with Hutchison Whampoa, the parent company of both H3G UK and
Hutchison 3G HK, in which DoCoMo has a 24.1% interest, in order to develop
and promote 3G services based on W-CDMA technology by DoCoMo, H3G UK and
H3G HK.
At the same time, KPN Mobile will decide before the end of April whether
to provide additional funding to Hutchison 3G UK, in which the Dutch telecommunications
operator holds a 15% stake. A KPN spokesman said the company is still
considering the funding call from Hutchison, and that KPN's lawyers are
yet to determine whether it's justified.
