WiseBand Communications Announces Wise-DPD
April 30, 2003
WiseBand Communications, a provider in the field of RF power amplifier
linearization technology, announced the introduction of Wise-DPD, a linearization
technology for multi-carrier power amplifiers (MCPA) for UMTS/CDMA2000
base-stations.
The efficiency and cost of base-station power amplifiers are major areas
of concern for both base-station manufacturers and power amplifier vendors.
This is because the cost, size, heat dissipation and power consumption
of the entire base-station are totally dominated by the power amplifiers.
Wise-DPD provides a significant step forward for base-station cost, efficiency
and size. Wise-DPD is a full system solution, based on a novel Digital
Predistortion (DPD) technology, combined with unique system architecture.
It delivers exceptionally high efficiency and linearity performance under
demanding, multi-carrier scenarios. WiseBand's proprietary algorithms
provide comprehensive treatment of PA memory effects, fast adaptation
under varying operating conditions, and a high degree of tolerance to
RF hardware characteristics.
Being a flexible baseband solution, Wise-DPD can be integrated into a
power amplifier or as part of the base-station transmit chain. Interfacing
can be done at RF, IF or baseband.
The first Wise-DPD demonstration platform is a UMTS (WCDMA) application.
Operating in the 2110-2170 MHz band, the demo MCPA achieves efficiency
levels exceeding 18 percent, with linearity exceeding 3GPP compliance,
with 4 WCDMA carriers (over 20 MHz instantaneous bandwidth).
