Vodafone KK lose customers but 3G users up

April 10, 2005

Over two million users in Japan signed up to 3G mobile phone services during the month of March. NTT DoCoMo, the largest operator in Japan, gained the most customers with 1.25 million 3G users. KDDI signed up 541,600 3G customers while 241,900 subscribed to Vodafone KK's high-speed service.

KDDI still leads the 3G market with 17,9 million users, followed by DoCoMo with 11,500,600 and finally Vodafone with just 917,200.

Despite Vodafone's increase in 3G users, the company faced a disappointing month with overall subscriber numbers falling by 7,400 to with 15.04 million. DoCoMo logged the biggest gain with 480,200 new customers and KDDI added 436,100 new customers.

DoCoMo ended the month with a total of 48.8 million customers and KDDI with 19.5 million.
