Envivio and NEXAGE to deliver end-to-end mobile video platform

April 4, 2006

NEXAGE, a wireless software and services company, and Envivio, provider of MPEG-4 (including AVC/H.264) systems powering mobile to HD applications, are joining forces to deliver an end-to-end mobile video platform for wireless carriers, content providers and media companies. The PhoneCast platform, enhanced with the Envivio Mobile Series of H.263/H.264 encoders, is now optimized for wireless operators launching mobile TV services, and for media companies and content providers repurposing content to address the demand for new video services over mobile devices. The complete PhoneCast solution allows subscribers to view TV, live events and sportscasts, and video on demand content on their mobile phones.

"We selected Envivio as a partner because of the superior quality, flexibility, and robustness of their encoding systems. Incorporating the features of the Envivio mobile encoders into the PhoneCast platform extends our service capabilities beyond 3G to wireless markets using DMB, DVB-H or ISDB-T mobile video standards," said Devkumar Gandhi, CEO of NEXAGE. "We expect our customers to offer exceptional mobile TV services and working with Envivio enables us to offer them a platform to do just that."

Mobile video services are accelerating wireless data revenues and their popularity is fueling the growth of 3G subscribers. During Q1 of 2005, 3G subscribers reached 23 million and by the end of 2005 had reached 50 million. According to Arc Group's estimate, mobile streaming video service users will grow to 250 million worldwide by 2008, generating revenues of approximately $5.4 billion.

"NEXAGE offers an innovative mobile TV solution that takes advantage of the unique possibilities enabled by MPEG-4 technology," said Julien Signes, President of Envivio. "Since our encoding systems are optimized for the low bit rates and network protocols specific to the delivery of video to mobile devices, NEXAGE customers are insured they will have the flexibility to package high quality, interactive content to any subscriber."

NEXAGE is currently working with various content providers and carrier partners to launch mobile TV services in the US and European markets. Mobile TV and video services offered via the PhoneCast platform are client agnostic, allowing media companies and wireless operators to target the widest possible subscriber base.
