Huawei launches UMTS BS solution for the AWS band

April 11, 2006

Huawei Technologies announced the release of its new-generation UMTS Base Station Solution for AWS Band (1.7GHz/2.1GHz) during CTIA 2006. Catering to North American applications, Huawei's new-generation base station system is the world's first UMTS Base Station Solution for the AWS Band.

Huawei has already released end-to-end UMTS solutions including UMTS850, UMTS1800 and UMTS1900 defined by 3GPP. With the release of UMTS 1.7GHz/2.1GHz solution, Huawei's UMTS solutions can support more extended bands than those of any other vendors. Moreover, Huawei's base station is based on the most advanced base station architecture, including Huawei's industry-leading distributed base station solution.

Featuring digital RF and leveraging IP-based system, Huawei's new-generation base station provides performance far better than that of earlier models. In addition, this new-generation base station supports the applications of full-performance HSDPA. More importantly, Huawei's new-generation base station can greatly reduce both CAPEX and OPEX. This is very significant for operators facing aggressive competition in the 3G markets.

Mr. Ken Hu, Chief Sales & Service Officer of Huawei commented, "Huawei's release of new-generation base station for the AWS band reflects its continuous commitment to the North American market." Mr. Hu believed this release is very important for the development of UMTS in North America before the AWS bidding.
