"CDMA technology helps telecom operators to optimize the existing spectrum by offering both enhanced voice capacity and data services for our valued customers. "At the same time, CDMA will provide Telekom Malaysia with an effective 'last mile' connectivity solution to the remote rural areas where it is practically impossible to install lines, because of the cost and technical difficulty. CDMA will not only provide this, but it will also complement with our desire to increase the nation's Internet penetration rate and simultaneously contribute to the establishment of a knowledge society," said Dr Khir. CDMA2000 1X technology provides peak packet data rates service of up to 144 kilobits per second. Users will be able to enjoy high performance data services such as Internet access, mobile commerce applications and on-line gaming.
