Sharp to Make Next Generation PDAdate: August 22, 2001 Sharp of Japan on Wednesday said it will supply personal digital assistants with 3G WCDMA wireless faculties to NTT DoCoMo. An official of Sharp said the 3G PDA will be sold under DoCoMo's brand. Sharp is currently completing with Toshiba to lead Japan's profitable PDA market worth around $1.2billion a year. Toshiba already plans to introduce PDA equipped with build-in 3G modem. "We are developing a 3G PDA for DoCoMo but can't say when it will come out,'' said Yoichi Sakai, Sharp's corporate director and general manager of communication systems. Sharp expects 3G PDA will be allow users to play videos, color games and MP3s. It will also be equipped with a SD Memony Card slot to allow data storage. Sharp, which also makes mobile phones, did not clarify whether the wireless function on the yet-to-be unveiled 3G PDA would be self-contained or connected to a separate 3G device.
