North Star and Lemcon Joint Venture To Offer 2.5G and 3G Wireless Services

date: August 28, 2001

North Star Communication Group and Helsinki-based Lemcon Networks today announced the formation of a joint venture to offer turnkey solutions to the wireless market.

The venture will focus on the upcoming 2.5G and 3G rollouts in the U.S. market by providing a full array of infrastructure deployment services. The service offering will cover all components of a network rollout including outsourcing, program management, network planning, site acquisition, design, permitting/zoning, construction, implementation, and network testing.

"We believe that by bringing together the global 2.5G and 3G experience of Lemcon with the local experience and capabilities of North Star, we are bringing the best of both worlds to the market," said Bill Johnson, president and CEO of North Star.

The multi-million dollar joint venture is slated to begin operations immediately with the training of regional work teams on the specifics of 2.5G and 3G rollouts. "The skill levels of these regional work teams will reflect real life deployment experience with this type of technology which is currently in very short supply," according to North Star's senior vice president of sales, marketing and business development Tom Anderson. "Because of the regional focus, we will be able to deliver these services on a cost effective basis, either separately or integrated into a turnkey solution, depending on the customers requirements."
