KDDI and Pioneer join force on 1x car navigationdate: August 7, 2002 KDDI and Pioneer announced on August 6th their alliance for developing a new car navigation system that has a built-in cdma2000 1x communication module. They also will collaborate in providing a navigation service for users of the new system. Pioneer will launch production of the new car navigation system, and start providing the navigation service before the end of 2002, the company said. Previously, all contents and information for car navigation systems, including map information, have been stored in package media, such as CD-ROMs and DVDs. The new system allows users to download necessary information by using the built-in CDMA2000 1x communication module. Pioneer plans to announce details of the new product and service in mid- September.
