HK CSL to have 3G in 2004
August 12, 2002
Hong Kong CSL chief executive officer Hubert Ng said the company
has set a timetable to develop WCDMA 3G mobile telecommunication
operations in Hong Kong in 2004.
Cited by the Sing Tao Daily, Ng said the company does not intend
to create a new brandname for its 3G services, which will be an
extension of its 2.5 services.
Further, Ng believes that Wireless Local Area Networking (WLAN)
will unlikely replace 3G services despite lower costs and higher
speed, as the service has territorial limitations.
In October 2001, CSL was awarded a 3G Mobile Service Licence in
Hong Kong. The Company also introduced the Asia's first Multimedia
Messaging Service (MMS) in March 2002.
CSL is 100% owned by Telstra.
