3G Today Website Delivers Information on Latest Wireless Services and Devices

August 14, 2002

Qualcomm today announced that it has enhanced the 3G Today website at www.3GToday.com . The site, developed and maintained by Qualcomm, is dedicated to highlighting commercial 3G CDMA wireless services and products around the world.

The enhanced website includes a wireless device database, which allows users to sort the more than 145 3G CDMA wireless handsets and devices according to categories such as brand, country, technology, operator, device type and date of introduction. These devices include sleek new flip-phones, color phones, smart phones, wireless PDAs and high-speed wireless modems, from 30 manufacturers worldwide.

"3GToday.com offers an in-depth look at the 3G commercial market today," said Jeffrey K. Belk, senior vice president of marketing, Qualcomm. "The rapid pace of 3G device innovation and carrier commercial launches of new 3G services drove the creation of www.3GToday.com . Enhancements to the site allow visitors a quick and easy way to obtain up-to-date information on the latest services and new devices that are available from 17 operators worldwide. The site also includes information on the recent nationwide launch by Sprint, including the devices currently being offered by this carrier."

3G CDMA provides high-quality voice services and high-speed packet data access. There are currently 17 operators offering consumers commercial 3G products and services, such as high-speed wireless Internet, built-in MP3 and video players, downloadable games and graphics, polyphonic ringers, location-based safety and security services, and phones with color displays and camera attachments.

3G CDMA systems such as CDMA2000 1X/1xEV and WCDMA/UMTS carry more voice traffic and provide high-speed data links, enabling users to download applications and content over the air. E-mail, video clips, karaoke, photos, games, banking, news alerts and Internet access are all available through today's 3G CDMA services. In the United States, 3G CDMA data services are offered through leading wireless service providers Sprint and Verizon Wireless.
