August 12, 2003
Ericsson has been selected by SingTel as sole supplier for their WCDMA
system in Singapore. Ericsson will also expand and upgrade SingTel's present
2G system for a fully integrated, nationwide GSM/GPRS/WCDMA solution.
The contract is valued at USD 125 million.
The agreement with SingTel comprises a complete 3G system including core
and radio access network. In addition to infrastructure supply, Ericsson
will provide a comprehensive portfolio of professional services including
network design and systems integration. Ericsson and SingTel will work
together to bring new, value added services such as video streaming to
SingTel's customers.
Mr. Lucas Chow, SingTel's Executive Vice President of Consumer Business
and CEO of SingTel Mobile said: "SingTel is pleased to appoint Ericsson
as the supplier of its 3G network in Singapore as it has given the most
attractive proposal. We are confident that with Ericsson's proven global
expertise in mobile networks and technologies as well as their commitment
to 3G, Ericsson can help us deliver high quality 3G services to our customers."
"We are delighted by SingTel's decision to select Ericsson," said Claes
Ödman, President of Ericsson Singapore. "This important agreement reinforces
