No fix date for launch said T-Mobile
August 26, 2003
UK T-Mobile, a unit of Germany's Deutsche Telekom, said it has yet to
set a commercial launch date for the launch of 3G network services in
the UK.
Press reports last month suggested the company will launch 3G services
in early December.
A spokeswoman for T-Mobile said the company will start to roll-out its
3G network this year in both the U.K. and Germany and will meet its license
obligations for network coverage in Germany.
However, the spokeswoman said no date has been set for the launch of
a consumer service in the UK and the company is committed to launching
3G services but won't consider launching until there is a high level of
network quality, a seamless service and a sufficient number of handsets.
The spokeswoman said that despite doing network testing trials over the
coming months, T- Mobile won't be trialing commercial 3G services in the
London area over the next few months.
Only new market entrant 3UK, a unit of Hong Kong's Hutchison Whampoa,
has launched 3G services in Europe. Vodafone and Orange won't be launching
3G services until March 2004 at the earliest whilst mmO2 has delayed the
launch of its 3G services until the second half of 2004.
