LG's Fingerprint Recognition Phone Flawed

August 19, 2004 - source: Telecoms Korea

The fingerprint recognition security function of LG-LP3800 that LG Electronics ambitiously rolled out 12th August in the Korean market turned out to be flawed.

LG Electronics boasted that the function would block persons other than the owner from unlocking the handset or accessing to mobile banking service. However, it turned out to be that anyone who knows password of the handset, regardless of his fingerprint, could unlock the handset.

If the handset fails to recognize fingerprint for three times in a row, the user is required to enter password of the handset. That means that anyone who enters the right password can unlock the mobile phone making the fingerprint recognition technology useless.

LG Electronics admitted the flaw saying that the handset can be unlocked in that way.
