GSA confirms continuing strong WCDMA growth globally

The latest 3G survey by GSA (Global mobile Suppliers Association) confirms the continuing strong growth and market acceptance of WCDMA as the leading 3G technology globally. The number of 3G/WCDMA networks delivering commercial services is now 82 networks in 37 countries, an increase of 22 networks during 2005. A further 7 networks are at the pre-commercial stage.
GSA also confirms that recent terminal launches have pushed the number of WCDMA/HSDPA terminal devices announced in the market up to 186 models from 26 suppliers, with 70 models launched just in the last 6 months.
According to the latest data from Informa Telecoms & Media, the number of subscribers to WCDMA services reached 30.79 million globally by end July 2005, representing growth of 13.9 million since end 2004, and averaging almost 2 million subscribers added per month in 2005.
The GSA survey also identifies 46 operators currently operating or deploying combined WCDMA and EDGE networks, ensuring service continuity for the best user experience of 3G services.
