Mobily awards Huawei 3G HSDPA contract

August 29, 2006

Huawei Technologies announced that it signed a contract with Saudi Arabia's Mobily for the construction of a UMTS network. According to the contract, Huawei will supply its New Generation Node B solution as part of Mobily's plan to deploy a UMTS terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN) based on High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA).

Mobily is owned by Etisalat of the United Arab Emirates. As one of Mobily's primary suppliers, Huawei strategically collaborates with Mobily not only in the field of 3G, but also GSM.

Mr. Jiading Wang, vice president of Huawei Middle East and North Africa, stated that,"Huawei is pleased to be the major supplier for Mobily's 3G Network and deploy a high quality network with strong performance. We are confident in our ability to continuously bring value to customers with innovative and leading 3G solutions."

Huawei's UMTS New Generation Node B incorporates new and innovative features, such as the highly efficient digital power amplifier supporting the multi-carrier technology and support for full-performance HSDPA. The new generation UMTS Node B effectively improves network performance for operators.

Huawei's UMTS New Generation Node B has been widely deployed in many countries and regions including Spain, Portugal, Poland, Malaysia, Hong Kong.
