Siemens wins contract to extend Polkomtel's 2G/3G network

August 30, 2006

The Polish operator Polkomtel S.A. has commissioned Siemens Communications to manage its 2G and 3G networks roll out. Starting in October 2006, Siemens will have full responsibility for managing the design, development and implementation of the GSM and W-CDMA networks in the southern, eastern and central regions of Poland - including Warsaw. The contract is set to run for three years.

Polkomtel S.A., Warsaw, has commissioned Siemens to deliver a turnkey solution covering the installation of second- and third-generation base stations and the modernization of the existing radio network in the southern, eastern and central regions of Poland and in the capital city of Warsaw.

Siemens will manage the 2G and 3G radio network expansion in a turnkey project covering everything from the acquisition of appropriate real estate, procurement of the required permits, project implementation and the coordination of deliveries, right through to supervision during the building phase and network installation.

"We know Siemens as experienced and stable partner in the area of services and construction of telecommunications networks. Choosing Siemens as our strategic partner for this turnkey outsourcing project will enable us to expand our geographic coverage on a cost-effective basis," commented Thomas Eberle, Board Member and Technical Director of Polkomtel S.A.

"The frame contract will allow Polkomtel to concentrate on value-added services for its customers and open up new ways of further increasing its subscriber base," added Christoph Caselitz, President of Mobile Networks at Siemens Communications.
