Czech Republic - CTU asked to prepare four UMTS licencesdate: 20th December 2000, source: europemedia.net The government has officially requested the country's regulator, the CTU, to prepare the documentation for four third generation (3G) cellular UMTS (universal mobile telecommunication service) licences. The government is now due to decide on the method of disposal of the licences by 31 January 2001. Although a spokesperson assured press sources that 'all options were on the table', the last indications were that the government was leaning towards the award of fixed-price licences to the three incumbent cellular operators, with a fourth licence being put to auction. Under any circumstances, the government will want to avoid some of the mistakes made by the Polish government in cancelling its UMTS tender. |
