Ericsson wins Sonera 3G dealdate: 21st December 2000 Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson said on Thursday it had won a three-year deal with Finland's top telecoms operator Sonera to help build its third-generation (3G) mobile network. No financial details were given for the deal, which calls for Ericsson to supply Sonera with radio network equipment and services. Ericsson, a leader in mobile networks, said it was now involved in 21 third-generation network deals globally. Sonera earlier this month announced a Finnish 3G network deal with telecom equipment maker Nokia . Sonera did not give any financial details, but said it would spend some 500 million euros over 10 years on its Finnish 3G network. Third generation mobile phone systems, due for roll-out in Europe around 2002, will support higher data transmission rates and are seen allowing for video and other multimedia services. Shares in Ericsson were unmoved by the deal, flat at 105 crowns at 1219 GMT, while Sonera were also flat at 20.95 euros.
