Hughes to Offer High Reliability 3G Solutions for Telecom OEMs on Motorola Platformsdate: December 7, 2001 Hughes Software Systems, specialists in convergent networks and India's leading communications software company, announced it has teamed with Motorola to provide advanced 3G mobile data protocol hardware/software platforms. These solutions would deliver wireless mobile data telecom infrastructure for OEMs building gateway GPRS service nodes (GGSN), serving GPRS support nodes (SGSN) and home location registers (HLR). HSS' software, combined with Motorola Computer Group's CPX 8221 High Availability platform, one of the highest density carrier-grade, high availability CompactPCI platforms in the industry, allows OEMs to rapidly deploy next generation mobile data solutions without the time or expense needed to develop complex communications software systems in-house. Through this hardware/software combination, coupled with HSS' MAP protocol stack over its SS7 stack, HSS now provides a complete development environment for HLR node for UMTS networks on the Motorola CPX 8221 platform. "We are pleased to deepen our relationship with Motorola and build on the work we have done with our SS7 stack. This is a great value proposition for our OEM customers as the high reliability of the Motorola platform seamlessly combines with high performance software from HSS," said Manoranjan Mohapatra, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, HSS. Paul Virgo, director of product marketing for Motorola Computer Group, said, "With telecom technologies changing so quickly, getting our customers to 3G for advanced applications like SGSNs using a proven platform such as the CPX8221 with Hughes' software makes sense. Our goal is to help our customers to maintain an edge in this competitive marketplace."
