LG Telecom to have streaming video content without 3G technologydate: December 13, 2001 LG Telecom and Thin Multimedia today signed an agreement stipulating that both companies will collaborate to provide mobile video services to LG Telecom's 4.5 Million PCS subscribers in Korea, launching in the first quarter of 2002. According to Mr. Se Yong Noh, Vice President, Wireless Internet Division of LG Telecom, "Thin Multimedia's solutions enable us to deploy rich wireless media immediately, without having to wait for 3G infrastructure." Thin Multimedia's video player, thinPlayer, is a software-based solution that eliminates the need for additional decoder chips in the handset. "It took us less than one month to port thinPlayer to our popular handset models. Within the next few months, subscribers will receive streaming video via our current network," said Dr. Noh. Thin Multimedia's technology outperformed competitors in rigorous benchmark tests that focused on such attributes as image quality, error resiliency, frame speed, battery life, and processing power usage. The testing was performed across LG Telecom's nationwide CDMA 2000 1x network and all components of each software suite - handset decoders, server software, and content encoders - were carefully evaluated. "LG Telecom will be the second commercial deployment for Thin Multimedia's wireless streaming platform. While Korea is on the leading edge of mobile video services, we will duplicate our efforts in other countries and are in active discussions with operators and handset manufacturers around the world," said Dr. Chuck Yoo, founder and CEO of Thin Multimedia.
