RadioMobil and Eurotel officially announces receipt of UMTS licencedate: December 14, 2001 The Czech subsidiary of T-Mobile International, RadioMobil and Eurotel today officially received a telecommunications licence to establish and operate public mobile telefommunications networks on the UMTS standard from the hands of the Chairman of the Czech Telecommunications Office Mr David Stadnik. "Winning this auction allows us to offer our customers a whole range of new services in the future. The result gives us first choice of UMTS frequencies as well as additional frequencies in the GSM range. Thanks to this, we will be able to optimise both networks and gain significant market advantages in terms of superior network quality, capacity and services offered. In addition we will be able to profit from the vast know how and experience from our sister companies in T-Mobile which are already in the phase of implementing UMTS technology," said Jiri Hajek, RadioMobil corporate communications manager, adding: "we trust that if the CTO decides to grant a third licence in the future, the financial conditions will be such that all operators will be put on a level playing field." The CTU said RadioMobil has offered CZK3.861bn for a 3G license, and Eurotel has offered CZK3.535bn. The two companies were the only bidders at the November 30 auction. Third operator Cesky Mobil refused to participate saying the minimum bid of CZK3.5 bn was too expensive. The CTU supervisory board is studying the bids and applications to run 3G networks. The licenses are to be awarded by December 14.
