China Motion invest $200m in HKdate: December 17, 2001 It has been reported that China Motion Telecom will invest up to HK$200 million of its own money by 2003 on building a next-generation 3G mobile network in Hong Kong. A spokeswoman from the company said it has not decided which four 3G license holders it will choose to build its 3G MVNO network. Last month the company obtained a 3G MVNO license. All four 3G network operators in Hong Kong has to satisfy the "Open Network Access" obligation, by which, they are required to open 30% of network capacity to service providers, including MVNO and content, application and services providers. China Motion, by the License, will then be entitled to establish its own 2G and 3G MVNO business. Mr Hau Tung Ying, Chairman of China Motion, said, ' From the perspective of an MVNO, it's the quality of service and brand image that count, China Motion has the telecommunications expertise to offer entrants into the market with a strong brandname and broad customer base. In this respect, China Motion is well-equipped and is all prepared to become a full-fledged MVNO when 3G arrives.'
