Sunday may partner with Shelldate: December 18, 2001 A local newspaper has reported that Hong Kong's Sunday Communications may announce Shell Oil as its partner in developing a 3G network in Hong Kong. On 26th September 2001, the Telecommunications Authority announced the conclusion of the 3G frequency band allocation exercise including the allocation of the Frequency Bands to SUNDAY 3G, a subsidy of Sunday Communications. The report said Shell might invest up to HK$70-80 million in the 3G network project. During a press briefing by the company, the MD did not mention the name of the partner or details of the partnership. In late November, Sunday Communications has paid cash for its 3G license instead of providing a bank-guaranteed bond, showing it has not got the confidence in rising the cash from the public. The company was due to pay a performance bond of HK$250m but instead submitted a cash payment for the same amount to cover its spectrum utilisation fee.
