The new multimedia service, which was demonstrated at the Holiday Inn in Seoul, boasts transmission of video on demand, video messages and long-text messages, wireless Internet service and sample FIFA 2002 World Cup matches through notebook PCs linked to handsets.

KTF said it is the first practical application of CDMA200 1x EV-DO technology in the mobile phone market.

The cdma2000 1x EV-DO sends video frames at a maximum speed of 2.4 Mbps or 12 frames per second, compared with Japan's NTT DoCoMo's maximum 384Kbps or 3-4 frames per second, a KTF official said.
