KTF showoff 1x EV-DO technologydate: December 18, 2001 KT Freetel Tuesday unveiled a third generation mobile service which allows a mobile phone high-speed transmission of moving pictures up to 2.4 M bps. The multimedia service is based on cdma2000 1x EV-DO (evolution data optimized) technology, an offshoot of CDMA 1x. The new multimedia service, which was demonstrated at the Holiday Inn in Seoul, boasts transmission of video on demand, video messages and long-text messages, wireless Internet service and sample FIFA 2002 World Cup matches through notebook PCs linked to handsets. KTF said it is the first practical application of CDMA200 1x EV-DO technology in the mobile phone market. The cdma2000 1x EV-DO sends video frames at a maximum speed of 2.4 Mbps or 12 frames per second, compared with Japan's NTT DoCoMo's maximum 384Kbps or 3-4 frames per second, a KTF official said.
