H3G Aims for September Launchdate: December 18, 2001 - source: BWCS Hutchison Whampoa is continuing its drive to become the first major player to launch 3G services in Europe. Vincenzo Novari, the CEO of Hutchison’s Italian operation H3G, has been quoted by the Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica as saying that the company will start offering services there in September 2002. This is the same date that Hutchison has pencilled in for its UK launch. Novari told the newspaper that his company was planning a major push for 3G services for the end of next year. H3G has apparently started work at 300 base station sites and is looking for 1,000 more. It plans to begin offering services in 50 Italian cities. The CEO said the main services on offer will be voice and video telephony, video and audio messaging and location based services.
