LG Telecom Sets Up IMT-2000 Labdate: December 19, 2001 LG Telecom, a PCS (personal communication service) provider, said yesterday it has set up a synchronous IMT-2000 system laboratory in Anyang, Kyonggi-do. The company said the lab will help facilitate the adoption of the homegrown IMT-2000 technology as the next-generation high-speed multimedia telecommunications standard. The lab system adopts International Telecommunication Union's standard frequency range and realizes data communication at a speed of 384Kbps. To bolster heavy wireless data transfer, the lab centers on ATM (asynchronous transfer mode), a core technology of the high-speed B-ISDN service, which is compatible with IS-95, a CDMA (code division multiple access) mobile telephone standard. The lab was established in concert with LG Information & Communications, an affiliate of LG Group, the nation's fourth largest conglomerate. Meanwhile, LG Telecom plans to secure Europe's asynchronous IMT-2000 service and operating technology by June in an effort to prepare to enter the international export market in case dual mode is adopted.
