Tektronix announce test support for latest UMTS release
December 4, 2002
Tektronix today announced its protocol test support feature for
the newest UMTS standard release.
UMTS Release 4 (R4) is the next step in the migration towards full
implementation of 3G UMTS networks. In order to meet the requirements
of each new release and to meet delivery deadlines for UMTS elements,
mobile equipment manufacturers are challenged to test the compliance
of their existing products against the newest specifications; a
proven test tool that supports the latest standard is mandatory.
Tektronix' K1297-G20 protocol tester V2.40 delivers compliance testing
of UMTS R4 in a proven, comprehensive tool.
The K1297-G20 V2.40, a tool for 2G/2.5G/3G testing, is equipped
with test case development tools to enable definition and modification
of messages and message sequences and to create scenarios that examine
specific functions of network elements. In addition, the test automation
feature enables engineers to quickly perform essential regression
tests to ensure intended standards specifications have been implemented
correctly and that no unintended changes have been introduced. The
monitoring capabilities of the K1297-G20 V2.40 provide a full set
of processing applications and allows decoding to the bit level,
enabling engineers to observe behavior in selected interfaces in
the network as they implement UMTS R4 specifications.
In order to get network elements out the door on time, equipment
manufactures are pressured to run new specification tests quickly
and without additional expenditures. With the K1297-G20 protocol
tester, manufacturers simply upload Tektronix' new V2.40 to enable
UMTS R4 support, saving time and the expenses associated with the
use of additional test equipment. Moreover, with the simulation
and emulation capabilities of the K1297-G20, manufacturers can replace
the use of network elements during test, enabling test scenarios
to be performed even before the elements are available. This further
cuts costs and time from delivery schedules.
