Vesper deploys CDMA2000 1xEV-DO wireless network
December 4, 2002
Airvana congratulates Vesper, a Brazilian operator providing services
to 17 states in the Southeastern and Northern regions of the country,
including Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, for becoming the first Latin
American operator to deploy a 3G CDMA2000 1xEV-DO network.
Airvana's CDMA2000 1xEV-DO OEM customers will deliver this network
to Vesper. Vesper is expected to launch commercial operations in
January 2003.
This deployment will position Vesper to deliver advanced, high-speed
data services such as Web browsing, video and audio streaming, as
well as interactive gaming to residential consumers. Enterprise
customers also will be able to access corporate intranets, e-mail,
and other business applications anywhere on the 1xEV-DO network.
"1xEV-DO's high speeds, capacity, and ease of deployment make it
an ideal technology to cost-effectively offer state-of-the-art,
3G broadband wireless services to our customers," said Luiz Kaufmann,
president of Vesper.
"Vesper's network is exciting both because it can offer a compelling
service and because it can be deployed quickly and cost effectively,"
said Randy Battat, president and CEO of Airvana. "The service is
something many people know and crave -- high-speed Internet access.
"It is a cost-effective system because Vesper can utilize existing
CDMA cell sites and spectrum, and because Airvana's All-IP implementation
takes advantage of the advancements and lower costs available in
the world of standard IP routers."
