Carphone in deal with Hutchison to sell 3G phones
December 6, 2002
Carphone Warehouse has signed a deal with Hutchison 3G to sell
next generation mobile phones and services.
A Carphone Warehouse spokeswoman said the group would sell 3G phones
and services from other mobile operator as and when they launch.
Hutchison was very confident two months ago that they would have
opened 3 outlet shops in November and have paying customers before
the end of the year. But they have yet to open its stores and possibility
of them launch 3G service before year-end looks unlikely.
Carphone Warehouse, which has 470 shops in the UK, said demand
for 2.5G had been strong and that high speed 3G phones and services
would be launch next year.
Hutchison made redundant on Wednesday 60 to 80 employees in the
product and marketing team as it focuses on its commercial launch
of 3G service.
