Cyneta selects Avnet to integrate content switch for GPRS/EDGE networks

December 10, 2002

Avnet Applied Computing, an operating group of Avnet Inc., announced today that it has been selected by Cyneta Networks to handle the hardware and software integration, functional burn-in and shipping logistics for its new wireless content switch. Cyneta's innovative switch, called the Intelligent Packet Control Node (IPCN), is a carrier-grade network element that sits in the heart of a mobile operator's network to deliver higher quality, more efficient 2.5G and 3G packet services.

Avnet Applied Computing will be responsible for the complete integration of all hardware and software for the IPCN, globally targeted for mobile operators implementing GPRS/EDGE/3G technology in their networks to offer "always-on," higher capacity, Internet-based content and packet-based data services. To support the requirements of Cyneta's worldwide customer base, Avnet will also handle global shipping and logistics for Cyneta Networks including order management and warehousing.

The IPCN systems will be built-to-order in Avnet's ISO 9001 certified Avnet Integration Solution Center in Phoenix, using a rigorous assembly process that meets or exceeds all international certification standards for the manufacture of telecommunications equipment.

"The mission for Cyneta was to identify an outsource integration partner with the assembly and quality testing processes that will result in the 7 x 24 reliability standards our customers demand," said Doug Smith, president and CEO of Cyneta Networks.

Cyneta Networks will have complete visibility into the outsourced processes via Avnet FasTrac, Avnet Applied Computing's secure, one-stop Web portal. This includes online review of the integration process, order tracking, and automated RMA (return) processing.

"Our selection by Cyneta Networks is a tremendous validation of the strong technical, logistics, and services capabilities that AAC offers our customers," said Troy Blanchette, senior vice president of Avnet FasTrac Services.
